It’s funny what things move us into greater awareness and understanding. My clients and fellow survivors/thrivers echo this sentiment. A smell, the outline of an object, the sound of a voice, the brush of a hand … can gently or not-so-gently awaken us.
For me, it was the movie “Diner.” I had heard about this “great” movie with a terrific cast including Mickey Rourke. But I never got around to seeing it, for 30 years.
One rainy weekend while clicking the TV remote, I came face-to-face with “Diner.”
What struck me most of all was the scene in a movie theater. The incident involved a conversation between Rourke’s character’ and his girlfriend about a box of popcorn.
Something about that dialogue made me uneasy: the tone, the intention, the response. That slippery voice, the duplicitous intention, the vulnerability. I felt uneasy. And something about it stuck, like a post-it on the wall in your office. The “funny” parts, didn’t seem so funny anymore. But I had no idea why. At a glance, it seemed just like any other movie, “Diner.”
But … something stirred, deep inside.
Hang in there, friends. Awakening is a steady unfolding. And love is coming to us all.
In the meantime,
Be the Empowered Essential You,
SusanJoy
